ANIMAL HUSBANDRY
This is an occupational essentially dealing with care of livestock namely poultry, pigs, cattle, sheep goat, working animal bees and pond fish. These including feeding
breeding (natural and artificial) , rangeland management, establishment of pasture and fodder crops, establishment of pasture and fodder crops , establishment of the
management of fish pond and bee apiary; diagnosis and treatment of animal diseases; Inspection and grading of livestock and livestock product; livestock product and
by-product processing.
It is also engage in animal feed formulation and compounding; conservation forage and crop stovers; and design construct and fabrication of farm infrastructures.
Skills and Competence
The student should develop the following competence (ability) after completion of the course
- Maintain farm safety, tools equipment and machines
- Manage farmer animals, fish pond and bee apiary
- Manage rangeland, pasture and fodder crops
- Make hay and silage and conserve crop stovers
- Design, construct and fabricate farm infrastructures
- Design and construct livestock marketing and slaughter facilities
- Design and fabricating fish ponds and fabricate beehives
- Formulate and compound animal food
- Slaughter livestock and process livestock product and by-products
- Control quality of livestock and livestock products
- Breed animals and perform breeding biotechnologies
- Diagnose and treat animal diseases
- Attend simple animal surgical and obstetrical cases
- Manage farm activities
- Inspect, grade and process livestock products
